BEFORE + AFTER - CLIENT COSMETIC UPDATE

I have the most darling client, who bought a new home up Emigration Canyon and wanted to do some initial cosmetic updates to the home, but weren't in a position to do a complete overhaul. With her budget she wanted:
- refinished floors
- new stair runner
- new lighting in dining, kitchen, and entry
- cabinetry painted
- new countertops and backsplash
- new hardware on kitchen cabinets

She did a lot of the work herself, but collaborated with me on paint colors, materials used, and floor stain, as well as contractor referrals. She just sent me the pictures of her home and I was so excited about the transformation I had to share!

KITCHEN:

before: light wood floors, oak cabinets, granite countertop and backsplash

after: light gray painted cabinets in Sherwin Williams Gray Clouds, scalloped carrara marble backsplash, Restoration Hardware glass knobs, and Cambria Torquay Countertops, dark-stained wood floors to add contrast. Eventually she will have the Serena & Lily barstools I love so much at the bar (those will really finish off the space)

FAMILY ROOM:

before: oak cabinets, oil rubbed bronze hardware, cafe curtains

after: Sherwin Williams Gray Cloud painted cabinets, RH glass knobs, tore out carpet and added wood floors, and she kept the original paint for now

ENTRY:

before: light oak banister and stairs, beige carpet runner

after: painted white stairs and banister legs, darker stained railing, new carpet runner, new Marigot chandelier from Visual Comfort, she kept the original tile and wall color for now

DINING:

Restoration Hardware Monastery Round Table, she sourced the chairs, curtains, and light herself with a little direction Overstock Bamboo Chairs, Louis Chairs, and the striped curtains (super cute, right?), and Shades of Light Caged Light. Rugs are on their way...

The project isn't completed yet, but we are almost there. And can I say quickly how much I love my job because of the people I get to work with? This client is the epitome of southern charm. She has a slight southern accent that I could listen to for days, and is beautiful and sweet. I get so sad when my projects finish up because that means I don't get to see my clients as much any more. Maybe I should start a book group with all my clients so I have an excuse to keep seeing them? What do you think?!

Hope you enjoyed these before + after photos. And I also hope this helped you see that with just cosmetic updates how much more enjoyable a home can be. And the best part - now this home reflects her beautiful personality.

  1. Love the transformation! What color did she stain the wood floors? We are about ready to restain and I am interested in the color she used.

    1. The stain was a custom stain, but I know we mixed ebony and coffee and added something else to make it a richer, darker color. With stains I always do a custom mix, and aim for a true dark brown with as little red as possible. Be careful with the ebony as it has a greenish tone to it...hope this helps!
