EXTERIOR PAINT FACE-LIFT

Don't get me started on how I feel about beige. In my opinion 90% of the time it is the worst color choice for your home. Beige sucks the life out of everything around it. It's so blah! Ugh. The worst.

So when my sister asked me to help her with her newly-purchased home, one of the first things we agreed on was the exterior needed to be painted.

Here is the before:

It really is a nice home, but with such a beautiful landscape and cool front door, the home needed fresher colors to help update it's look. We decided to go for a more "California" inspired look.

*The white is brighter in these photos than in real life*

I am in love with the Benjamin Moore Woodlawn Blue front door. It's such a pretty front door - it's nice that it will finally be noticed. And yes, please ignore the fact that my sister has not taken her Christmas lights down!!

But isn't it a nice change and what a difference it made! Before the home just blended in, but now the greens look greener and the florals are more beautiful. You notice the stone accents and the front door. All of the details come to life.

Are you getting the itch to paint your exterior? I know that it's one of my favorite updates to a home. We are working on some exterior updates on my home as well. Update to follow soon...

  1. On the 15th of June the workers will come to paint the house!! It's settled!! And I hate beige also! Here, in Romania, almost all freshly painted houses are beige and brown! I hate it!! Told hubby I wanted white(ish) and smok(ish)-grey !!!! Now I have something to show him!!
Gorgeous house and the lanscaping is awesome!! Great job!!

  7. Ha! I feel the same way about beige - ugh! I'll take cream, white, or pale grey ANY day over beige!

  9. Beautiful!! I have been wanting do this to my house and have a brown roof with ORB gutters and was worried how it would look. It looks like your before pictures the roof is brown and after is black? Do you know what color the roof is? Because it looks gorgeous!! Love!

    1. The roof is the same color - just looks different because of the different color of the home and maybe the photography. But the color is a grayish slate color. Hope that helps!

  11. In the "before" picture the garage doors are barely visible and appear to be brown, like the front door. In the "after" shot they are not visible; did you paint them gray like the shutters? (Like Heather, I'd love to know what white and gray paint colors were used!)

  17. Giving your house an overall exterior update made it look a lot stunning! I suggest that to make your door standout, better paint its frame with a different color. A darker shade of blue will do, just to put emphasis. Anyway, I enjoyed your other exterior updates, Marianne!

  20. What is the name of this type of door? Is it a standard size front door or slightly larger? I’d love to replace my front door with this style. Thank you! Beautiful work!
