ANTIQUE CHAIR REUPHOLSTERING + E-DESIGN UPDATE

I love a great re-upholstery project and these two inherited antique chairs turned out just the way I was hoping.

 

The chairs were really nice to begin with, but didn't fit the young, cape-cod style of the home and we needed a more kid friendly fabric for this family with 3 children under 7 years old.

We chose this greenish/grayish velvet-textured fabric because it looks like a high-end velvet but is 100% polyester so it will clean up fabulously.

We didn't want to ruin the antique feeling of the chairs, but the wood frame did not match the home so we did a white rub on the frame to give it a white-washed/antique look. And with the help of my favorite upholsterers, Rocky Mountain Upholstery, this is our finished product!

And my E-Design update is that I am no longer accepting E-Design clients for the time being. I hope to return to doing E-Design in the near future, but for now my schedule is filling up to the point that I can't dedicate the time I would like for these projects. I appreciate all of my E-Design clients who have been SO incredibly great and fun to work with and I hope to return to doing E-Design soon!

MAKE A STATEMENT

Hi everyone! This is Jamie, the newest member of White + Gold Design. I could not be more excited about working with Marianne again. She is not only one of my all time favorite people, she is crazy talented and I consider myself so lucky to be learning from her. A few important facts about me - I love talking about cutting my hair, Diet Coke and therefore Sonic Happy Hour, my darling family, Nicki Minaj (I can't help it), gray hoodies, fabulous shoes and fruit roll ups. I also love interior design and feel like a home should be a reflection of your personality. The greatest compliment to receive is when someone says, Hey.. that looks just like you!

Today I've been thinking about making a statement... with your couch.  We all know the drill when buying a large piece of furniture and spending a chunk of change. Get something neutral, be practical, make it easy to change accessories and color schemes. It's smart design and makes sense to go this route and it's what I have always done with my big purchases.

BUT... maybe this is my knocking down the door on 30 first mid-life crisis speaking... I'm fun, I like to have fun, why shouldn't my couch be fun? I wish I had the guts to make more of a statement! Anytime I have chosen to go a bolder route I have had zero regrets. The way I know a room is successful is if I smile when I walk in. And get real, how could you NOT smile if you were cuddled up on one of these bad boys catching up on Pretty Little Liars? (HONESTLY, I know I'm behind the times, but WHO IS A???)

Am I the only one who makes design resolutions? Lets stop saying, I love that but could never do that in my home. Why can't we do it? My resolution is to let my house have a little more fun. Go big or go home - or go big AND go home to one of these beauties.

MY OTHER CREATIVE OUTLET + AN UPHOLSTERY GUIDE

I do love interior design, but I'm not a one-note girl and I have to get my creative urges fulfilled in other ways :) That other way is graphic design.

Before I had my two girls I worked in advertising as an account manager at ThomasArts. After hours and hours of watching the graphic designers create amazing ads out of nothing, I picked up on some of the techniques and started to play around with InDesign and Photoshop on my own.

I'm an amateur at best, but I love doing it anyway, even though it can be extremely frustrating and stressful. My latest logo is for my mother-in-law who is a family and individual therapist. (Btw, she's really, really good if you are looking for one in Salt Lake County).

I also recently did a logo for my favorite photographer and sis-in-law, Emily Brown Photography!

 And of course I did my own logo. I do little things here and there like baby announcements and Christmas cards.

I think if you are creatively minded you have quite a few ways to get your creative urges fulfilled - what are yours?

BTW, did you see this "pin" from Apartment Therapy on Pinterest? What a great referral guide for how much fabric you will need to upholster your favorite pieces. This will help you decide whether or not it's worth reupholstering, because the fabric can be the most expensive part!
